Math
Number of the Day has the group discovering patterns in math equations. The problem of the day
has students thinking and writing about the daily math problem. We have been sharing and practicing different strategies for addition problems and focusing on different combinations of making groups of ten.
Writer’s Workshop
Everyday students get a quick mini lesson at the rug to learn a new strategy for improving their writing. After the mini lesson students have some independent work time and meet back to share our writing. We will be starting the unit on personal narratives.
Reading
Different groups of students are working on different patterns in words. Groups are studying the initial consonants, short vowel sounds and the ch/sh sound. We’ve also been reading a lot of stories and turning them into class plays.
Project time.
We are getting started on the first project of the year. Students have started thinking about what life was like long ago and learning about the life of MLK.
