Thank you
Thanks for everyone who donated containers, avocado seeds and paper towel rolls. The students really appreciate the resources. Also I would like to thank all the co-educators that attended the meet-up. I left the meeting inspired and had new ideas.
What’s been going on in class?
Reading
They also completed their first word sort. Groups have been working on their word sorts and reading the book From Plant to Seed. Reading groups created posters about the book. Nest week we will be reading a book about trees and creating scientific diagrams. We have also started reading our Habit of Heart and Mind Core Text-Stone Soup.
Writing
We wrote a poem from the perspective of the Little Hummingbird. The assignment focused on using adjectives nouns and descriptive language. The students created character maps for the hummingbird. They also made character maps for imaginary characters. Next week we will begin to write response to literature focusing on the life of Wangarii.
Math
Students signed up for ST math accounts. They got user passwords that can be used at school and at home ( for the people who selected that curriculum). Students are wrapping up their work on measurement and comparing.
Project time
Students completed their first batch of science experiments. Some seeds made it to the seedlings stage, others need a little more time and some turned into puddles of white goo. We also dissected a seed with Core Four?
After a month of predictions and speculation, we finally figured out who Wangarii was. Our science work was really laying the foundation for continuing the work of Wangari. In the upcoming weeks, we will be creating an action plan.
Please Bring in Three Photos of Your Child. They can be baby pictures or recent pics.
