Words In A Bag
Cut 10 index cards in half. On these 20 cards, write 10 segmented words. Separate the word beginnings from the word endings into 2 piles. Go through each pile with your learner to make sure they can read the sounds and give help when necessary. Put the beginning sounds in one bag and the ending sounds in the other bag and give both bags to your learner.
How to Play:
Your child can work independently or with you as a partner taking turns pulling out one card from the beginning bag and one card from the ending bag. Read each card separately, then fit the sounds together. Put the two cards together in front of you (even if it isn't a "real" word) and continue to pick from the bag until all the bags are empty. If you are unsure if you have a real word, grab the dictionary and show how useful it can be!
Once your learner is confident with three letter words, add four letter words into a bag. Download the 6 different "Words In a Bag" games ready for you to print out or copy.
